Would you be depressed and angry if you were a lonely old spinster who lives wit!

Question:

Would you be depressed and angry if you were a lonely old spinster who lives with her sister?

I hate the world.

Answers:

It's being lonely that's the problem. Being old, or a spinster (a gloriously old-fashioned word), or living with one's sister, can be just fine for many people. But if you're lonely (rather than simply alone) then I'm not surprised you feel depressed and angry.

You say you hate the world. I wonder if you mean it in that sweeping way. Is there anything in the world you like? Trees? Films? Books? Cats? Children (or at least some children)? I'd suggest that if there is ANYTHING that gives you ANY pleasure, you try finding a volunteering opportunity in that area, or join an adult education class relating to it. Can't stand people? Well, at least you might get out for a walk somewhere that you're not likely to meet people but can commune with nature.

It's also possible that you're feeling lonely because that's the expectation. Perhaps you don't really want to be with people. Perhaps you're a writer (many of whom are quite isolated - they write well because they observe so well). Or a painter. In which case, you need to be doing your writing or painting or whatever.

It's also possible that the anger and depression is getting in the way of everything. In that case, try psychotherapy to help you get to the bottom of that and get a different take on it.
