HELP with another question re: Ativan?

Okay My doc gave Ativan in place of regular medication xanax. He thought after 6 yrs I should try something new. Today is my 3rd day, and this morning he had me take 1 1/2 mg...I did at 6:45am...I remember laying back on the couch after a cup of coffee and next thing I know it is 1:30 EST. OUCH..long sleep. The nurse from doctors office called and I told her and she told me to back down to .5mg. Is it nornal to sleep that long...this stiuff for me is insane. I didn't do anything all day. I asked her why couldn't I just take the xanax again. She said the doctor still doesn't want me taking that. Guess I am going to need to get an appt with a physc next week, She said, to hold on and try taking only .5mg 2 xs a day. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Also wanted to mention..Ativan is highly addicitve as well.

You know what sometimes you need to tell your doctor what you will and will not take. I tried several medications before I found the right one. You also need to educate yourself on what you are taking or what you are about to be prescribed. If you know that ativan is addictive then you need to get that proof, take it back to the doctors office, and tell them we need to change this. I have done it before and they saw that I was not going to be a there medical ginuea pig! If you don't agree with what is going on and they don't want to listen then please look into another doctor. I have done it before. Hope this helps.
