Help on Life?!

Question:

Help on Life?

Note: This isn't meant to be emo.

I just don't know what to do with my life. I wish I had some kind of talent like - playing an instrument, singing, dancing, painting anything. I realize that nobody just has talent they work at it, but i've tried it all and I just don't. I'm mediocre at everything. School straight B's - you know i'm ...wanting to come off complaining but i'm not really passionate about anything. I love to dance and i'm alright but nothing....amazing. I've been working on it for about two years but still like I said there's no natural talent there.

This is my sophomore summer - so i'm going to be a junior and I can't work because i'm 15. Too young to drive myself anywhere to work - let alone find a job. (I don't want to babysit or do yard work so please nobody say that.)

I wanted to model when I was younger - i'm not concieted but i'm a pretty girl but wayyy to short for modeling. 5'1.

Any suggestions?
Thanks so much.

I'm 25 years old and am just starting to figure things out. Right now, I would give anything to 15 again. All I can say is sitting around and waiting for God to determine your path is NOT the way to go. You need to work for it. Try as many things as you can. Academics at the High school level aren't always the most interesting, but the material at the University and College level is far more fascinating. Take a look online at some of the programs your local colleges and universities offer and start looking up into areas that interest you. you might be surprsed what is out there. A straight B average is more than enough to get into University or College, maybe not Harvard, but great schools nonetheless.

It's really hard determining what you want to do with your life these days because there are really soooo many options and children are taught that they can do whatever they want. While the is some truth to the spirit of this belief, it is not completely true. There are some things I could never do, no matter how hard I tried or wanted it. To be success, you need a combination of desire, passion, talent and luck. Without these, it is going to be nearly impossible to be successful.

As for your main interests so far, modelling and dancing. Yes, there is probably no way you could ever work as a model (and knowing you are attractive does NOT make you conceited). Height is really something you can't change or work on. I am sure you could get catalogue work, but it is hardly lucrative and probably not what you had in mind. As for dancing, keep it up!! Have you tried several forms of dancing? Perhaps the type of dance you have chosen isn't where your natural talents are. Just keep experimenting and keep going at it, you really never know! 15 isn't old at all, and there is still plenty of time for you to develop into a dancer.
Also, have you considered acting? You mentioned modelling and dancing. You obviously would enjoy performing for people, and this would be a great way to take advantage of your looks and background in movement. It is even beneficial to have a few acting courses under your belt if you do become a dancer. In fact, I would recommend acting courses for ANYONE. Its a great way to get over self-consciousness, learn about yourself, and become comfortable in your own skin, and polish your performance skills, whether for dancing, or presenting a corporate presentation.

Another thing you might want to consider is starting your own business one day. Who says you need to work for someone else? Since you wanted to be a model, you probably have an interest in fashion and beauty. You could open a clothing store or a spa, become a stylist, or even design your own clothes! The options are endless! Just make sure you are responsible with your credit when you get to that age. Don't get a creit card the second you turn 18 unless you can truly handle it. How you handle your credit is the biggest barrier to owning your own business. If you keep that in mind, you wll have no problem getting your first small business loan. I can't stress this point enough. Even if owning your own business is not what you want to do now, you may change your mind later, see keep your credit squeaky clean!!!

The key is to just to think about what interests you and break down how your interests can be used to do something that you would love, rather than working the other way, which is picking a career and seeing if you can do it.

Good luck in your endeavors! The fact that you are searching for meaning at 15 years old is impressive and suggests to me that you will get through this. Only a minority of people know what they want to do with their lives at your age, so don't get bummed out by those few people you meet that are super talented in a given area and are obviously headed down that direction. Truth be told, even people you know now who are SURE that they want to do this or that with their lives will probably change their minds and be just as confused as you are now. That is simply life.
