What do I do if my antidepressents aren't working?!

Question:

What do I do if my antidepressents aren't working?

Answers:

Antidepressents work on brain chemicals (neurotransmitters).
Because each person is different, the exact drug and dose can vary. Typically, it takes up to 30 days of consistent drug use before one can be sure if it is working or not. You telling your Doc how your are feeling is the MOST important way he/she will know how to make adjustments to get the medication to work better.
NOW HERE IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT FACTOR: Alcohol and street drug use hit the same brain chemicals the medications do. If you are using - and you want the medications to work -- you have to be honest with the Doc and tell them what, when, and how much you use. The Doc will then know what is the street drug part and what is the medication part. Most good Docs will not preach, but they need to know all the facts.
