What can a person do to get out of the darkness or depression.?!

Question:

What can a person do to get out of the darkness or depression.?

I have bipolar disorder and with treatment functioned excellently at home and on the job for sixteen years. I stopped taking my meds about five years ago and functioned ok, but started having trouble lately. Im' back on the meds but can't snap out of it. I can't think or make decisions, don't want to clean house or wash dishes and have lost interest in former enjoyable activities. I used to enjoy getting up early and making breakfast and going out in the boat fishing or just cruising, now i have no interest in that and just sit at home and worry since my car was repossed yesterday, and i am about to be evicted for my home and my disability insurance ran out. I have been in this situation twice before and had a hard time, no interest in anything and no ideas on how to get out of this mess. I feel guilty for not working and supporting my wife , especially since now we could end up on the street with no home or car, if i go to work, I will be fired, i don't even have a way to work

Answers:

You can sign up for Social Security Disability (SSDI) since you have several years of medical records linking you to bipolar disorder. But that's a long term goal, and you are in a real jam right now. I can't think of any solution except prayer.

If the medication isn't working, your doctor needs to change it. My boyfriend is bipolar. He is on Social Security Disability Income because he is unable to hold down a job.

Sounds like it's time for an emergency hospital stay to get you stabilized and change your medication to try and help with the depression. As long as you are severely depressed, you won't be any help to your wife, yourself or anyone else. They can't fire you if you go into the hospital and that will give you time to recover mentally and you can sign up for SSDI while you're in there.

As far as becoming homeless, there are homeless shelters out there. It is a big shock to your system, but you will survive. I had to live in shelters 3 years before my Social Security went through. Then I got 3 years back pay - over $40,000 and bought a house.

My prayers are with you and your wife. Good Luck!
