Psychosis confusion hellucination caused by wellbutrin ? how rare is this?!

Question:

Psychosis confusion hellucination caused by wellbutrin ? how rare is this?

Psychosis, Confusion, and Other Neuropsychiatric Phenomena: Patients treated with bupropion have been reported to show a variety of neuropsychiatric signs and symptoms including delusions, hallucinations, psychotic episodes, confusion, and paranoia. Because of the uncontrolled nature of many studies, it is impossible to provide a precise estimate of the extent of risk imposed by treatment with bupropion. In several cases, neuropsychitric phenomena abated upon dose reduction and/or withdrawal of treatment.

how rare is this? and how many pills do i have to take to get these effects? lol id love some delusions and hellucinations lol

Answers:

I'm bipolar and took Wellbutrin in the past when I was depressed. It didn't push me into mania, but maybe hypomania. Right below the prescribing information you quote, the manufacturer says to expect some activation of mania by Wellbutrin. It doesn't seem to be a frequent occurence, but that may account for all or nearly all of the psychotic symptoms you list. Later in the same information is a list of symptoms for patients on Wellbutrin vs. patients on placebo. These symptoms you mention aren't much different between the two.

People who have depression are liable to develop psychotic symptoms, either because of bipolar disorder or psychotic depression. Wellbutrin doesn't seem to add much to that. The seizures it causes is a different matter. People with no risk factors for seizures can have one on Wellbutrin. Fortunately that's an uncommon side effect.

Trust me, you're better off not having delusions and hallucinations.
