Question:
For people who take antidepressants, how/when did you know that it was time to get medication?
Answers:
When I told my PCP that I was depressed and had been for a long time, I was diagnosed as "clinically, chronically depressed" and prescribed prozac. It was like a miracle, and I felt better after two weeks on this medicine.
It is recommended that when you begin to feel depressed, that you see a doctor. If caught early on, you will not need to be on antidepressants for very long, and will not suffer as much as if you wait to see a physician. A physician will also rule out other medical possibilities.
If need be, you may be referred to a psychiatrist, as they specialize in diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
Best wishes.
