How did/do you combat depression and/or self harm?!

Question:

How did/do you combat depression and/or self harm?

Answers:

If you are at the point of combating a desire to self harm, you need to go to a doctor. You either need counseling, medication, or both. I know from personal experience that when you are feeling self-destructive that diet, exercise, meditation, etc do not help (At least for me). When you have become seriously depressed those things don't usually work.

Once you get professional help (doctor/psychiatrist), you will gradually raise your self-esteem and get rid of the depression.

I tried all the other things to get rid of anxiety, sadness, anger and depression I was feeling. What I found I needed was professional help, because I was in a downward spiral. Sometimes our brains don't allow us to be happy. They can become deficient in "happy" chemicals called serotonin. Anti-depressants reverse that gradually (I just started taking). I am starting to feel better myself.

I am not saying that it is the answer for you, but you need to seek out someone who is trained in treating depression. They will find the best way to help you. Just be honest and open about your feelings and thoughts.

Good luck!
