Why would an anorexic person be prescribed Zyprexa?!

Question:

Why would an anorexic person be prescribed Zyprexa?

A friend of mine who had anorexia was admitted to an eating disorder clinic and prescribed zyprexa. I'm wondering what zyprexa has to do with an eating disorder.

Answers:

Your friend may have other symptoms that need to be treated, and Zyprexa might work for her. I'm not sure how it would work on an eating disorder, per se, but the eating disorder is caused by other emotional problems, which the Zyprexa might be treating. It can also cause increased appetite and weight gain, even without eating more (it can change the way the body metabolizes food). If your friend has concerns she needs to talk to the doctor or psychiatrist who prescribed it.
