Anxiety meds not helping?!

Question:

Anxiety meds not helping?

So I have been on Lexapro (SSRI) and klonopin (1mg) for about 3 and a half years because I had horrible anxiety. Up until about a month ago, I was doing totally fine and feeling normal. But I have since had horrible panic attacks and anxiety that does NOT go away. I have self-diagnosed myself with Generalied Anxiety Disorder. I think my meds have stopped working somehow because even when I increased my Lexapro dose (about 3 weeks ago) my anxiety has not gotten better. I worry about every little thing and feel detached. Could my meds have stopped working and if so, what should I do? I'm not comfortable with increasing my klonopin dose because when I tried to wean off of it I had horrible withdrawls. Anyone else been through this?

Answers:

I am also on medication for depression and anxiety. I have also been on Lexapro. If they have stopped working you should go to your doctor and have talk to him/her. You may need your meds changed. Alot of times meds will stop working after a time because our bodies become immune to them. Also talk to your doctor about your increased anxiety. There may be something besides the meds that is causing you to be more anxious. Talk to your doctor about what you think about having generalied Anxiety disorder. You may be right and the doctor would be able to better advise you on that also. Are you seeing a counselor? I have found that seeing a counselor on a weekly or at least every other week has really helped me. Just talking my feelings out helps. Another thing I have found to help me, is to journal. It gets those feelings out on paper.

God bless
