Should I...?!

Question:

Should I...?

From the age of 6 to the age of 16 I took behavioral and depression medication. I changed my meds a few times because it gave me heart palpatations and one took me to a totally different level; why would a 13 year old try to kill her self, I mean come on.
Instead of finding a different med. I started to self medicate with marijuana and, only marijuana. I didnt want to take pills forever. The pot is starting to make me paranoid that Im going to get in trouble or do something wrong or stupid and nauseas but it keeps me calm it keeps me from being depressed and keeps me focused. Im in therapy and the "doctor" suggests a prescribed medication and stop self medicating. I know its illegal and I know its not healthy. I want you to see that it does help more then it doesnt, but I would still like someones opinion.

Answers:

Well if you want a straight by the book opinion then I would have to say that self medicating is not the answer. Because you need to always be medicated by a profressional. The reason they are professionals is because they have been trained to know how to deal with certain situations and illnesses. But, then again on the other hand, if you have problems calming yourself down and you are smoking weed to help and it is working then, why stop? What is a more better reason to stop other than it's illegal? You said you become paranoid when you smoke weed? Yeah, that's one of the side effects. Just like any other medication it has it's side effects. I really shouldn't be telling you this, but honestly here's your options: take something that is legal and you have side effects that are absolutely harmful (such as what you stated "heart palpatations" or "changing your mind state to the point that you want to kill yourself) or take something that's illegal that just makes you paranoid? Being paranoid isn't really a good side effect but it may be healthier than other side effects. Honestly, to cut the bull s**t you just need to go back to the doctor, stop smoking weed (because it is illegal and it will bring you more problems than it will solve) and have them experiment with you until they get you on the right meds. That's really all you can do. Self medication really isn't gonna help you in the long run. So, you might as well just try to do it the legal way.
