My grandma has alzheimers, what can I do to help?!

Question:

My grandma has alzheimers, what can I do to help?

My grandma is about 75 and she lives with my grandpa in Oregon. She is gettting worst each day, and she can't even remember her own name. Well, anyways, my dad and I usually go up there (we live in california) and visit them. But my dad doesn't want to visit because he says that it's very depressing and she won't even know who he is. Well yeah how can I help?

Answers:

I'm sure it's very depressing. He's losing a loved one but not by dying. Alzheimers is a cruel disease, but sometimes they have moments of being normal. If he's lucky he will get to experience a few of those before she is gone forever. Remind him that children learn from their parents and he needs to treat her like he wants you to treat him. The love should remain even tho the mind doesn't function any longer.
