What is Catatonic? If you are catatonic, can you be up typing on the computer?!
Question:
What is Catatonic? If you are catatonic, can you be up typing on the computer?
ok, I read the wikipedia article, but I can't concentrate well because of my depression. I do stare with no change in expression for hours. But I can get up and go make myself a bowl of cereal.
I went to the psychiatrist today and under "affect" he wrote something that started with an A and I couldn't tell what he wrote.
Anyway, how do you know if someone is "catatonic"?
Answers:
catatonia is a very rare psychiatric condition associated with schizophrenia. it is characterized by "waxy flexibility", meaning you can move a person's arm very easily into a new position, and they will maintain that position for extended periods of time. after working in psych for 12 or so years, i never witnessed such a state. regarding your affect or response to the stimuli around you, your doctor may have written "animated" meaning you show appropriate expressions, body language, rate and volume of speech, etc...
