Ughhh...please help? SSRI's or Tetracyclic anti depressents?!
Question:
Ughhh...please help? SSRI's or Tetracyclic anti depressents?
I keep rewording my question because I can't seem to get an answer. I want to know what each drug targets IN LAYMANS TERMS. Compare Lexapro to Wellbutrin? What kinds of patients for example would respond well to either?
Answers:
I don't know anything about the Tetracyclic anti-depressants, but I know of the Tricylic and the SSRI's from experience. The SSRI's tend to have a lot less side effects than the Tricyclic. If the Tetracyclic anti-depressant is a newer drug, then chances are they may be more effective, long-lasting, or have fewer side effects than the previously made anti-depressants.
The SSRI's are Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors, and should do selective work on serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter (chemical in the brain) that affects ones feeling of depression and other processes of the brain and bodily functioning.
