Is a person with bipolar disorder/schizoaffective disorder personally accountabl!

Question:

Is a person with bipolar disorder/schizoaffective disorder personally accountable for lies they tell?

do you think that if a person has the above diagnoses they are capable of controlling themselves when it comes to lying/creating stories that aren't true about the past?

Answers:

Hi:

I am also a Bipolar patient. When I am cyclying and during that cycle I am lying, yes I m responsible for my lies. If you approach me when I am unstable, I probably will never admit my lies to you or me or any one else.

I would hope that when I am stable again that people tell me what happened, what I said did etc. And if you know of any lies I told then you should call me on it, absolutely. Just because I have Bipolar, that does not mean I do not need to take responsibility anymore, that is just a cop out.

But all of this depends on the severity of the illness(s), that I believe is the basis for your judgement call.

I hope this helped.

Be safe and be well
