I may be bi-polar II....?!

Question:

I may be bi-polar II....?

I've been more and more "moody" the last few years and have just thought that it was due to my bc pills and hormones. Well it's gotten worse recently and I went to my doctor and she said I may be pi-bolar II.

I did a bit of research about it and found out it's very different from bi-polar I. I'm still not convinced that it applies to me.

Does anyone have any experience with this illness?

Answers:

Hi Dolly,
Bipolar II differs from bipolar I in that extremes in cycling are often more severe, especially the depressive phases. more people with bipolar II are deemed whats called a rapid cycler, which is theoretically imply that the person cycles through a full manic and full depressive stage three or more times a year. In wokring with a lot of my students and clients, it seems that the trend can happen even daily for some people. manic phases noting hyperactivity/ hypermania, excessive excersise, excessive monetary spending, inability to sleep, restlessness, are more pronounced in Bipolar II.
If you think this is what you're experiencing, work with your doctor, I highly recommend seeing a therapist, at least once, and maybe asking for a referral to a psychiatrist. There is a lot of information out there, and a lot fo people willing to help. Take soem time to learn about what you may be experiencing, and work with your health care providers to develop a treatment plan to help get you feeling your best.

Good luck and take care of yourself!
