Anxiety- any tips on dealing or overcoming without use of drugs?

I suffer from what I feel are anxiety attacks, they come from no where but I am starting to identify what triggers them. I found if I am getting my haircut it will happen, my heart will race and ill begin to get hot and sweat, or if I am in an overcrowded room, or if people are standing directly behind me. It's a horrible feeling and just wondering if any of you have this problem and your techniques for dealing with it, thanks in advance.

There is good and bad news in fighting panic disorder.

The good news being that it is quite treatable without medication.

The bad news... In panic, the absolute best treatment is exposure. Bravo to you for identifying triggers. When you are in a panic inducing situation remember to use anxiety reducing coping skills such as deep breathing though your nose and out your mouth. Also tensing and releasing muscles to really feel the difference between tension and relaxed state.

Using these skills (practice them in a non anxiety producing situation to make recall easier) allow yourself to experience the panic. Know it will last only a short time and even though it feels as though you will loose control you will not. If you can teach yourself that the panic will actually not hurt you, the attacks will decrease.

Finally watch your caffiene intake (a huge panic trigger) as well get regular excersise. Running is great as is learning yoga and meditaion.
