Anyone have a boyfriend/fiance/husband who has a mood disorder??!

Question:

Anyone have a boyfriend/fiance/husband who has a mood disorder??

If so, how do YOU deal with it when he has his episodes?

Answers:

I often get moody/irrationally angry over nothing with my boyfriend and it has caused a huge problem in our relationship. Speaking from experience, the person who is often getting moody is insecure about something whether it be jealousy, self esteem, family issues, etc. The fear that is getting them so upset is usually completely irrational, and more likely then not, he knows it is irrational as well but can't stop it. I have been taking yoga lessons to help control my anger and build up my tolerance to not getting angry as easy and it is helping immensely. I would suggest going to yoga with him, or doing other types of meditation so he is calmer and doesn't blow up and get upset as easily. As far as dealing with him when he is having an episode, I would say that reaffirming your love for him when he flips out and then walking away is the way I would say to deal with it. When I am angry and my boyfriend tries to argue with me, calm me down, etc, it only gets me more upset and angry. If you tell him "I love you, but I don't love the way you are acting, so I am going to go to the store" it will give him an opportunity to reflect on his irrational behavior and hopefully apologize to you once he calms down. And of course, if it gets physical then it is beyond any sort of redemption and you should leave the relationship.
