Has anyone lost a much loved pet and had the experience devastate them?!

Question:

Has anyone lost a much loved pet and had the experience devastate them?

I lost my poor little cat today. It really is bugging me. He had cancer in his throat and couldn't eat any more.

I saw little choice in the matter. I am generally against Euthanasia(sp?) but felt it was the right thing. In the best case I don't know how much time.

I'm somewhat unclear what upsets me so much. It just seems to boil down to a very dry scientific view that this is all we have and when our time is up, we're done. I want to believe there is more, but I am having a moment of doubt.

Is there anything anyone can say to get me happy again?

Answers:

You're upset because you lost a friend and it's possible there are a bit of guilt feelings there, too. I had a dog who was severely ill and had to be put to sleep. It's not a good feeling at all.

I had a dear cat, his name was Mr. Kitty. We were very close. He was also very close to our lab Kozmo. Kozmo passed away and poor Mr. Kitty grieved himself to death. I'd had him to the vet and thought he was over it. For a week, he seemed back to normal. Then, one Saturday night he started behaving very strange and wouldn't use his litter box. I changed it, did everything I could think of to help his feelings, but he just refused to use the box. Anyway, before morning he was dead. He had a blockage, and I didn't even know such a thing was possible. I felt terrible, like I'd let him down.

Funny you should ask today, but tomorrow it will be 3 years since I lost him. I still miss him, and it took me months to get over him. But I did and now I have very fond memories of him and am thankful that he was mine for a while.

You did the only thing you could do. You saved him alot of pain and suffering. My heart goes out to you.

I very much believe in God and Heaven. I may not practice it like I should, but I do believe. I like to think that that all our pets have a special place to go when they die.

God bless you.
