I feel despondent and need help, but where do I look?!

Question:

I feel despondent and need help, but where do I look?

I scream inside my head constantly, because of the effort it takes to be alive. I don't know how to describe what I feel, but I'm afraid that if I don't get help, I am going to lose it. I don't know if my pain is physical, emotional, or spiritual anymore. I can't tell the difference. I just know I am close to my breaking point and I feel like I have no one to turn to. I am not like this. This isn't how I want to live my life. I'm an educated person, with dreams and responsibilities, but each day passes into nothingness, day after day. Can anyone help me to find help or help me figure out what the heck is wrong with me?
Please help?

Answers:

That's not a very pleasant place to be. Sorry you're having such a rough time. You absolutely need the help of a counselor or therapist. You'll have the best luck choosing someone at the Master's level (M.A. or M.S.). It doesn't matter whether it is a social worker or licensed professional counselor. Psychologists cost more, but aren't any better at therapy. They do have expertise in testing, but that doesn't sound like what you need. The therapist can help you sort out if it makes sense to get a medication eval. from your PCP or from a psychiatrist or other qualified person.

You can google your city's name and 'counseling' to get started. Ask if they have free initial consultations. Don't give up if the first one or two aren't a match for you. The problems you are describing require professional help. The good news is that most people are able to find significant relief by getting that sort of help. You likely have better times ahead if you get some help. Good luck.
