Im suffering from depression and anxiety, I have lost all feeling....?!

Question:

Im suffering from depression and anxiety, I have lost all feeling....?

..for my boyfriend of 6 months and Im wondering if its normal to feel like this when suffering from depression.

Answers:

Yes its normal. Depression has various symptoms, which vary from person to person to some degree, but in all cases means loss of pleasure in all activities. Sometimes you eat more, sometimes you lose your appetite as well.

If you are on antidepressants the feelings can all go completely, dreams go away as well, as the medication stops the suicidal and tearful feelings, but the few good ones too.

Contrary to what people have said above, talking to friends about all this will be pointless. I'm not saying that you should keep your depression a secret, by all means talk to whoever you trust about it, but they won't really be able to help you. Would you be able to help someone with depression?
Some people will miss the point completely an dtalk to you like you're doing it on purpose to be depressed, they will say things like "pull yourself together" and "think of the people that die of starvation" -like that's gonna help you, like you're having fun being ill.

The best thing you can do is to find a good talking treatment, possibly with a qualified psychotherapist, as counsellors are really for those who have a practical problem that causes them to be low, like bereavement or redundancy. Depression is a dark feeling that seems to come from nowhere! that's why its hard to fight.

You really care for your boyfriend, its just that depression is screening the feeling away so that you can't really see it anymore. Don't panic. It will get better, but you have to talk about your feelings to a trained professional that knows how to best help you. Friends and family might do their best, but they get very worried by depressive feelings as they don't really understand, and they don't really know how to help. It's very good if they show you their support, to be there for you is the best they can do.

All the best to you
