St Johns Wort?!

Question:

St Johns Wort?

I have anxiety and this has also brought on depression, I'm at the end of my teather, I will not try meds prescribed by my doctor as I affraid to to be honest, I've read all the side effects of prozac and the likes and won't take them.

So I was thinking about St Johns wort? Is it any good for mild depression? Are there anyside effects? I tried rescue remedy but to be honest I may aswell have taken a sip of brandy, it was useless

Answers:

Ok..so you won't take meds that will correct the imbalance in brain chemistry but you will take St. John's Wort which is a mild MAOI inhibitor. Fancy talk for a drug that promotes a chemical in your brain to make you feel better. This class of drugs is rarely used now in psychiatry because of all the side effects..interacts with many other drugs AND alot of foods! Yippee right?
Talk to the doc again..perhaps a small dose of Klonopin at night ONLY as needed might be the best way to start and ease your fears about medication. This is a good antianxiety drug and main side effect is sedation..which if you are awake worrying is a good thing to take before bed, right?
Good luck.
