Will night terrors cause someone to hurt someone else.?

My son age 10 has had night terrors sense he was a baby.Even though they are frightening to him and the rest of the family we have learned to cope until his last episode .luckily his screams woke us but this time was totaly different .we found him carrying the block of kitchen knives into his sisters bedroom.I have heard of people that have night terrors hurting themselves but has any one ever heard of or experienced any thing like this?

My boyfriend has had night terrors since he was a kid, he used to cut himself very very badly and prefusely. we found the cause of his night terrors finally at age 21 and it's sleep apnea, he now sleeps with a cpap machine and doesnt have them anymore.

As for your son, it could be something completely diffrent I don't think he could develope apnea at that age. Is he on any medications?

My best advice is to just not ignore it, don't tell him it was just a bad dream and to go back to sleep. My boyfriends parents did this and future medical problems occured, manic depression(hence the cutting) and etc. Your sons case could be diffrent but please pay attention to the details.
