Anxiety when trying to sleep?!

Question:

Anxiety when trying to sleep?

Okay...This will probably sound weird, but I can't sleep in some places. I mean...I can sleep perfectly if I'm on the couch with the TV on, or if I'm sharing a bed with someone else. But, if I have to sleep in a bedroom alone, I start feeling anxious for some reason, and I'm not able to sleep. Even if I take sleeping pills, it still doesn't help. Anyone know what might be wrong with me? And, on a side note, I've been suffering from severe depression for a while now.

You almost answered your own question there!

I am no Dr. but I believe it has to do with your depression and being anxious sometimes always goes along with the depression for some reason. And why you can't sleep is effected by that depression/anxiety.

You said that when you have the t.v. on you are fine and when sleeping next to someone you are also fine...so, let me ask you a question; If you had the t.v. on in a bedroom by yourself would you be able to sleep? If you answered yes then its most likely just your anxiety "worrying" that something is going to happen or go wrong then you keep telling yourself everything is fine. It's the comfort you get when you have someone next to you so "just incase something/anything would happen" they would be there for you and when you have the t.v. on while on the couch, it takes your mind off all the worrying that anxiety can give you because you are not just "laying there" with the anxiety kicking in and you have nothing to keep your mind off of the anxiety of thinking of something happening.

Have you ever tried a type of night light so if you don't have the t.v. on there is still something in the room to keep the room from being too dark or maybe reading a magazine or book before going to be each night when you are alone?

It sounds silly but little things like a night light or just reading a magazine and telling yourself everything is ok could cure the common anxiety/worrying part of your mind.

Hope that helps.
