How do you stay awake/get more energy during the afternoon?!

How do you stay awake/get more energy during the afternoon?
Even when i drink a cofee or have an energy drink in the morning, around 3 i still find myself very sleepy and craving a nap. Im only 17 right now, but if i keep taking naps i dont want to rely on that just to get through the day. Any suggestions (Besides more cofee and monster, trying to avoid those) to help keep me up?
Answers:
First of all get 8-10 Hours of sleep per night. Second drink at least a half a gallon of water each day. Third eat complex carbohydrate foods, and foods with alot of protein like Nuts (They always pick me up).
