Diagnosing Aspergers?!

Question:

Diagnosing Aspergers?

My brother has is, multiple cousins that have it. Autism, bi-polar, ADHD, anxiety, depression, suicide, even schizophrenia run in the family.
We suspect my son (age 7) of having Aspergers. Currently he is diagnosed with ADHD with comorbid of Social Anxiety/Violent Behavior disorder. Current treatments & behavior plans in place and things have got worse in many ways, and is slipping through the cracks at school labeled as just a "bad kid". Not being able to go into his whole history here... doing research on our own he seems to fit the profile for Aspergers nearly perfectly, but getting an official diagnosis has been a long an frustrating process that has been mentally damaging to him and us. What documentations do we need to get his doctors to move on this? We do not want him to be the one bringing the gun into school...

Answers:

Speaking as someone who has aspergers, I can say that "bi-polar, ADHD, anxiety, depression, suicide, even schizophrenia" tend to run right long with it. Add to that dyslexia and hyperlexia. Aspergers has its own set of diagnostic criteria, but is frequently found with those other things.

Kids with aspergers tend to get frustrated over things that don't bother neurotypicals. When that frustration build up to the exploding point, you end up with what appears to be violent behavior. I believe the VT shooter had aspergers.

You need a diagnosis from a psychologist that works with asperger kids. If positive, he needs group therapy, counciling and social training.
