How to work on cardio and resperatory systems while gaining muscle?!

Question: I have been working out and taking weight gain/high protein formulas since late summer and have gone from 148 pounds to 188 pounds (mostly of muscle), but now have trouble with respiratory and/or cardio--stamina wise, have lost some speed and metabolism (perhaps for the best, as I am not as jumpy). How do I now get to the respiratory (mostly) and cardio health? I have just recently started on flexibility exercises, and have done well.
My goal is to be over 200 pounds by summer (perhaps as much as 225), be toned well, and have good stamina, resperation, and cardio health.
Oh, I am not sure this matters, but I am 34 (yeah, I know I waited too long to start, but better late than never...and if I don't get in shape now, I might never get to).

Thanks

Just about the most a person can gain is 7 pounds of muscles per year. I believe you are fooling yourself if you think that 40 pounds of weight gain from late summer is muscle. Maybe you lost some speed because you're caring around an extra 40 pounds! When you start increasing your cardiac fitness, you'll be burning a lot more calories and will probably decrease your weight. I sincerely believe that you are in too much of a hurry. I like the fact that you're doing flexibility exercises. Those larger muscles are going to severely tighten you up. The best and still the cheapest way to increase cardio is jumping rope. It's help a lot of boxers in there day. I don't recommend running, as soon as you start getting really heavy, running is going to be more stressful on your knees.
