Question: My Boyfriend took his antibiotics last night for his teeth......He is suppose to take the a pill with food, but he took the pill alone and at 3am till now he has been throwing up and he is all cramped up....and quite in pain, would antibiotics have such a negative effect if taken withou food?

Thanks....

Also is there any home remedies he can take to feel better, he can't have Pepto bismol because he is allergic......

also he did make Lasagna in the oven (it wasn't home made) but I ate it and I feel fine. and the Lasagna was baked all the way through according to him...but I'm not sure what else he ate yesterday

Yes, some antibiotics can really make you nauseated if not taken with food. He can try ginger or gingerale...it is a natural remedy for an upset stomach. If he continues to experience the nausea, he can contact his physician who may be able to prescribe something (phenergan or comazine). Assuming his nausea ends, he should be sure to continue taking the antibiotic with food. Just watch for any signs of allergy i.e. itching, difficulty breathing, hives, etc.

You didn't say what type of antibiotic he's on. Research the pills on the internet, they will list all the side effects for you. But in general, yes, there are some nasty antibiotics out there. Try eating yogurt for the nausea. Talk with your pharmacist about a substitute for what he's taking now, or talk with the doctor.

Call the doctor on call and see what he should do - compazine is the correct way to spell the anti- nausea drug. There are other medicines. He may have the flu - or may be unable to tolerate the antibiotic - but he has to get something to get rid of that infection in his tooth eventually most likely...
