Workout while on flue?!


Question: The flue symptomes started 2 days ago. Can I workout in the gym (only weight lifting, I am no up for aerobic workout) or will make the symptomes worst?

Rob- A good rule to follow when deciding to work out when your ill is the above or below the neck rule. If you are experiecing a runny nose, headache, or cough, it's a safe bet you can have a light workout. However, if you're experiencing symptoms below the neck, such as the flu, I'd suggest you stay away from the gym and make yourself comfortable at home. It doesn't matter if you're only weightlifting. Lifting weights taxes your body and creates a stressor. To your body you are adding an additional stressor while it's trying to combat your illness. Plus, do you really want to make others sick at the gym?

you should be resting and you'll get better quickly. eat oranges.
if you're going to do it though keep it light and don't push yourself. and perhaps keep it at home. you'll pass it on.
