Razor Bumps?!

Question: My boyfriend has a horrible case of razor bumps that has been all over his face for a little over a year (beard area). He has no health insurance so doctors all kind of out of the question.

Does anyone know how to get rid of razor bumps and alternative ways of shaving (he has african american skin if that will help) (he has to keep his face clean for work)?

Shave after the shower.
The heat and water will soften the hairs and skin before shaving.

Use a fresh new blade.
Four or five shaves is the max for a disposable.

And a good aftershave lotion, not a cheap splash on liquid.
A good one, like Preferred Stock lotion...they cost about $10-25 a tube.

If he's using an electric shaver get some new blades, and use the lotion.

I found shaving right after a shower reduces skin irritation.

wash the area first well with warm water
use a new razor
shave slowly/carefully and do it everyday
after use a salicylic acid--often found in acne products--you can buy it at cvs for like $5--it cleans the area and helps with razor bumps
