My buddy has very shakey hands and sniffles a lot...?!

Question: He says its nerves (the shakes) and he is allergic to everything (sniffles)....could it be he needs alcohol (the shakes which tend to calm down when he drinks) and the sniffs are a nervous twitch?

First "The Shakes"

If your friend is NOT an alcoholic, his shakes could be a "voluntary trimmer". A couple drinks of alcohol will temporarily stop the trimmer as will a mild heart pill. Everyone has a trimmer but with some people (like your friend), it is more severe than with others.

It's just something hereditary and it's not very uncommon

The "Sniffles"

Your friend may be have alergies. The nose, sinuses and throat are the first parts of the respiratory tract, where air enters the body to begin the breathing process. They can be affected by allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis or other infections such as sinusitis, tonsillitis and simple reactions such as sneezing. Medications and other treatments may be used for nose and throat problems.

Dude it could be allergy season so that could account for the sniffs. as far as the shakin some people do have unstedy hands. does he reak smell wierd alcoholics sometimes have a smell to them when you are with him does he always have a drink try not having one see if he has to have one. Be supportave and help if he needs it to have help

CD

maybe cocaine addiction???

Sounds like he could have a drug problem also...Its odd that he chalks it up to him being allergic to "everything".

Sniffing constantly is a sign of Tourette syndrome, which is an anxiety (nervous) disorder.
Ask him if he had other tics when he was younger, such as rapid eyeblinking, twisting neck, etc.

An antidepressant or Strattera (non-amphetamine for adhd) should help. It will take at least 2 weeks for the meds to start working.

I had a few nervous tics, sniffling includes, since i was 11, only one remains now which is eye rolling. but yeah he could have an anxiety problem like me.
