Accedental Chlorine sniffing?!

Question: My boyfriend does trash outs of houses, and he found some chlorine tablets (the kind that you clean you pool with) and he didn't know what it was at the time, and smelled it. After wards, he started throwing up, and it's hard for him to breathe in deeply. He's going to the doctor soon, but I was wondering if they would keep him overnight, or what they would do to him. So if you could please give me some information, that would be excellent.

Happy New Year.

Could have damaged his lungs. Don't know if you are aware of it but Chlorine is the main active ingredient in Mustard Gas. It is pretty poisonous if inhaled in large concentrations.

But I can't see where just smelling of a Chlorine tablet for a swimming pool he'd get that large a concentration.
They use chlorine many times more concentrated than that when cleaning and sanitizing in food processing plants with no ill effects.
Most likely just check him out good.

Follow the link below; it talks about the dangers of Chlorine inhalation from swimming pool tablets:

see doctor

Chlorine inhalation can cause severe irritation of the respiratory tract. MSDS' (Material Safety Data Sheets) for various brands of chlorine tablets label it as a hazardous substance. He should definitely be checked by a doctor as soon as possible.

You can look at one particular MSDS here:

Where I work, we evacuate for Chlorine leaks.

i took a sniff of a whole bucket full of it, boy i coughed, gaged, and my eyes watered like crazy. lol i was younger then.
