How seriously common are bladder infections (or UTIs) for men?!

Question: My boyfriend (now husband) was diagnosed with one almost 2 years ago. At that time we lived separately. The symptoms he came down with were: itching at head of penis, discharge from penis (thin/milky), burning during urination, fever, aches, uncomfortable after orgasm (like he had to pee), etc... He swears that he was not unfaithful to me. I had not been with any other partner and have never had a STD. I did get tested for Chlamydia just in case and it came back negative.

Please only serious answers only. I have read many places that bladder infections in men are extremely rare...that makes sense to me given their anatomy.

Any real medical advice would be helpful as well.

I am trying not to doubt what he told me was the diagnosis, but at times I do.

Thanks much.

Well, it won't matter how rare it is, because that still won't make him any less vulnerable to it, and he could be that rare few to have got one. Believe him, and if you don't you could simply ask for his diagnosis information at the doctor's office.

Men don't get them frequently but it does happen. Happens more often if they weren't circumcised. That milky white discharge doesn't sound right to me though.

Wow, this sounds like a soap opera to me. Okay, well, men do not get UTIs very frequently. Although I am not an adult yet, I have never had one before. The thin, milky discharge and the fever do not sit right with me. You might have to consider taking him to get an STD exam. Good luck to you both.

well i think that, the best way is to take an antibiotic, since it is an infection.

I beg to differ. You can get really nasty fevers with UTI,s and a feeling of being quite poorly, especially if it is affecting the kidneys (pyelonephritis), and any urologist would tell you that they commonly see men with UTI's. With regards to whether he has been faithful or not? You are now married, he has commited himself to you, he says not, so accept that and let it go, or else you can let it go on nagging at you for the rest of your married life. Which would you rather?
