And to the question of the day. Whenever I shave down there, I do it in the shower. I simply use a normal shaving razor, and be careful. Take your time. Feel free to take away the entire amount of hair.
You will find it after the first time it might be annoying, but it will get better.
Part you needed to be extremely careful is the balls.
Carefully, leave a bit of hair above the err.. area.
As long as you don't rush in like a maniac then it should be a painless excercise.

The good old safety razor with the older type of handle and opposite twin edged blades are best. You can shave without lathering too much, some times dry shaving is better than even water, especially when the hair content is quite high. Loosen up the blade holders slightly - it helps.

Don't do it. It's the most ridiculous fad to come down the pike in a while. The hair in that region is there to help prevent chafing and many gals (and guys) find it to be sexy. If you start to shave, you are asking for all kinds of skin irritations, white heads, black heads, painful ingrown hairs and once you start, you'll have to keep it up or bear the unpleasantness of regrowth. (It is kind of fun to shave your balls though;)
