Circumcision in the UK?!

Question: How prevalent is it there?

Answers: How prevalent is it there?

It's not very popular.

The Brits are wise, they prefer to keep all their bits.

Not popular - reasons: people clean themselves and as it's also based on Greek religion so it's not often done, probably why were more sexually active than America, I heard circumcision can halve sensitivity in your penis. In my opinion it seems slightly barbaric cutting up something unnessecarily at birth based on, well nothing really. Most of America is neither greek nore any cleaner than the rest of the World.

Circumcision is only popular in America due to society, I think kids should make up their own minds. In the UK it became popular early in the 70's, so anyone around 30 will be circumsised based on statistics, it was only popular for like 4 years though.

Well i'm in the UK and i'm not circumcised. My brother isnt circumcised My dad isnt circumcised. My baby twin cousins arent circumcised (so their dad - my uncle - probably isnt either). My other 4 yr old cousin isnt circumcised (so his dad prob isnt either). Out of my 8 closest mates I think 2 of them are circumcised but im not sure i havent seen many of them in the changing room. So i dunno what the official rate is here, but out of my family and friends its about 1 in 7 that are snipped. Not many.

except you're muslim and jews...
other do it for hygenic reason..

Hi Zed, I live in the UK and from the changing rooms I would say that only 10% to 15% or so of adults are curcumcised and most of them were cut prior to about 1980. I think it was popular in the first half of the century and is now avoided. Although it's not unusual it's not common either. Most folk don't care or even notice if you are cut or not.

I am personaly quite OK with circumcision and had it done as an adult, but I am against children EVER getting cut as they should be given a choice. I think in the UK curcimcision it is now limited to those who require it for cultural or religious resons, those who have a problem that needs to get fixed, and those who as adults choose to get it done for aesthetic or personal reasons.

In this day and age, hardly anyone over here is circumcised unless you are Jewish or Muslim and it's part of your faith. I don't know anyone from the UK who is circumcised (addmittedly, I haven't asked everyone). But other than religious reasons, the only time someone would get circumcised is if they had a medical problem with their foreskin that required a circumcision, but that's extremely rare. And nobody is going to have a baby boy circumcised right after birth for no reason.

As far as I know, the only country where circumcised is the majority is the United States. In the states it's more of a custom at birth but not really done for religious reasons.

It's very uncommon, more uncommon to be circumcised in Britain than it is to be uncut in America, I know that much. They have the right ideas though, stopping the practice all together, at least for kids at birth. I agree that it is barbaric and it strips away the boy's right to decide for himself. I'm uncut, here in America, and I'm very proud of the fact that I wasn't cut up so barbarically at birth.
