I know, this is an odd male question?!

Question: My dad, yes, my dad, wakes up in the middle of the night like two times to go to the bathroom. It's not like I stalk him or keep tabs on him, but I was wondering what was causing it. Is it some kind of thing to do with his bladder?

Just twice? Over eight hours?

Sound okay for an older man.

Bladders get weaker as we age. Maybe he drinks a lot of water before going to bed. I know I do. I get up once or twice during the night.

He might drink a lot.
He might just be getting old.
He might have diabetes.

prostate problems, possibly swolen, sorry to hear that

it could be or maybe hes diabetic or drinks to much water or some sort of beverage.
talk to a medic or doctor.

Depending on his age, both males and females as the progress and get older can slowly lose control of the muscles that control your ability to hold your pee. This may be one reason. Or like anyone...he could just drink a lot before he goes to bed causing him to have a urge to pee in the middle of the night.

it could be that he drinks a lot during the day. it could also be BPH (benign prostate hypertrophy) where the prostate grows and begins to squeeze on the urethra preventing him from fully emptying his bladder. he may also just not completely empty his bladder when he goes and keep high residual (amount of urine in the bladder) so it fills up quickly.

by the way - BPH is very natural and most men get it as they age. it isn't life threatening but he regular prostate tests should still be done to ensure it isn't caner related.

easily it is one his habits. non of your and mine business.

The older I get the more I go in the middle of the night, usually 3-4 times, I wish I knew why too so I didn't have to. The nights I actually get some sleep I'd like to remain there and not get interupted by peeing. I drink tons of fluid during the day, so maybe that's why he does too?

That's one of the most common symptoms of an enlarged prostate.

You might try bringing it up with him. Tell him you love him, and you are concerned, and ask him to please have his prostate checked out.

It isn't a pleasant exam, but it's better than having something wrong and having it go untreated.

Like the other answers, drinking fluids close to bedtime, alcohol consumption, diabetes are common reasons. One more reason is called begnin Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). That is when a man's prostate swells, constricting the ureathra, and that elevate enzyme PSA. When they diagnose that, the operate by a procedure called Transurethal Resection Procedure (TURP) more commonly known as a
"rotor-rooter job".

He might want to see a urologist just to be sure there isn't anything that requires attention.

I agree with andy, it could be BPH, or maybe diabetes. if he drinks a lot, eats a lot, and urinate frequently he might be diabetic. did he ever check his blood sugar? any other symptoms? is he hypertensive? overweight? maybe you should take him to seek medical attention

Why don't you ask him?

He is very okay, especially if he is aging. The bladder naturally gets weaker with age. Drinks n even water could also make one get up 2 pee in the night

You can check out on the cause of BHP, as we get older our prostartes get larger and consrict the ureter, this prevents a normal flow of urine from the bladder. I, being 74 yrs old have suffered with this for 20 years. You can start planning now on not suffering the same fate as your father. Start something to keep your prostate from getting too large. Check it out on the internet.
Chuck

It could be due to old age.

no.......the bladder had nothing to do with it... he go to the bathroom to masturbate...how many time he did it just count it.
