If it was your first time, it is normal. A few things could have prevented it from 'fitting' - you weren't aroused (wet) enough, water alone (being in a pool) is not adequate lubrication for sex, your hymen hasn't been broken yet and was acting as a barrier.

Assuming you are old enough to even ask... I think you were in the water? Yeah. Bad idea. The act requires proper lubrication and water makes it nearly impossible... especially if it was the 'first' ??? Nothing wrong with you... I think it was a lack of knowledge/experience that caused the prob.
