Is there anybody on here with Leukemia and taking chemo right now?!

Question: I have been for over a year. I'm not at home because I have to be close to the hospital and clinic. I'm a country boy and now I'm in the inner city. I just don't fit in here at all. I'm bald, skinny, but puffy cause of steroids and other meds. I'm sick and in pain alot. How do you make friends if your me? Especially when the only kids my age that don't run, just want to make fun of me. This life is starting to suck alot.........

Your situation sounds rotten... I'm sorry for all that you're going through. Kids (including teens!) can be horrible - they have their own problems if they treat you badly (mean people grow up to be miserable people).

Are you in school? Where do you meet people? Maybe you're looking in the wrong places. There are groups outside of school that include a more diverse selection of people, like youth groups. If you have spiritual beliefs, there are youth groups in most churches... just because they go to church, doesn't mean that they are guaranteed to be kind, but there's a good chance you'll find some good people there.

Have you looked into any support groups? There may be groups of people with Leukemia, or just cancer in general, that would understand your situation completely. It might not sound appealing, but it can be extremely helpful to be around others who know what you're experiencing.

Is there any type of counseling or support workers at the clinic/hospital? They might know of good places to meet people who can sympathize or empathize with your situation.

I know you probably get tired of people saying cheesy stuff like, 'hang in there', but I'll say it anyway. Keeping some hope or a spark of faith that things will get better can actually have a big impact on your body's ability to heal. If you want someone to talk to, feel free to send me a message... I like meeting new people who seem genuine :)
