2 things;
1. It may be psychologically beneficial for you to experience a professional male touching you in a non-sexual way. Though you'll be nervous; the truth is you'll survive the experience just fine, and perhaps you'll never be afraid again?
2. Any man's finger is MUCH thinner than what you produce from a bowel movement, so if it hurts, it's not the size of the finger, it's that you're tensing up and contracting the muscle due to the abuse you suffered. I prefer that a man do it as he is more likely to sympathize with your anxiety and be more aware of how tender the prostate can be.
Because prostate cancer runs in my family, I've had about 10 prostate exams done in my lifetime. Yes; I was nervous and felt icky the first time, but it gets easier as the years roll by, and I don't even think about it. Good luck, whichever you choose.
...Personally I would prefer the Doctor with the smallest finger...but that's just me.
Female...for several reasons - 1st - it's smaller...LOL...2nd - it's female - I don't want a male going there...3rd - I'm staright...and 4th - you don't really have to do that anymore as they can do them with a blood test now...
I'm straight and don't care either way, but the last woman doctor was rough! If it's a bit uncomfortable then the doctor is doing it correctly. They have to get up in there and feel around to check properly.
I haven't had one yet but would say I would much rather female...borderline bi, only when I am drunk =)
It shouldn't matter, as long as the person has small fingers and above, all, performs a complete prostate exam. Its like a mammogram for females, to make sure we don't have cancer.
Being a health care provider, you cant perform the test on yourself so, one of my associates gets the task. We have four MD's and 8 PA's working in the office and yes, some are females.
Long as I get a clean bill of health, my wife is very happy. She reminds me of my " time for the exam" because I remind her for her pelvic and mamo.
Think healthy and keep your mind out of the gutter.
As long as they arent up there for longer than necessary, i dont care. Even a small finger, which is preferable isnt pleasent. Bi BTW

Being gay, I prefer having a male doctor do it. In fact, I have it done yearly by my doctor (a male). Besides, I feel more comfortable discussing any health issues with a male doctor or therapist.
I'm straight and don't have a preference. I have never had the prostate exam from a woman, but I have had a female doctor examine my privates. The prostate exam is so uncomfortable that I'm not thinking about the doctor's gender or how big his fingers are. On the one hand (LOL), small fingers might be more comfortable, but on the other hand, large fingers might be more effective at feeling the gland.
