Is it possible to strain you bladder?!

Question: Is it possible to strain your bladder or surrounding muscles? Three nights ago I drank several glasses of water between dinner and bed time. I awoke during the night needing to pee really bad. When I stood up I was hit with a sharp stabbing pain in my lower abdomen. On a pain scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 7. It almost doubled me over in pain, and I almost didn't make it to the bathroom. After relieving myself the pain subsided somewhat, but was still there. I had a similar experience the following morning but not as severe. Now whenever my bladder gets full or I cough I have pain in the same area, but nothing as bad as the first time. It has gotten less painful over the last 2 days but still hurts and is very uncomfortable at times. There is no stinging or burning sensation and my urine is normal colored. Has anyone else experienced this? If it doesn't go away in a few days I'm making a doctor's appointment.

Yes, it is possible and yes you probably did strain it. Give it a few days it should be fine and back to normal. Just make sure and pee when you first get the urge, so your bladder will heal faster.

ur not meant to strainbaldder in first place. got to loo! you will lose control one day and it wont be easy to get it back to its usual behaviour. im serious.

no i havent but i passed out drunk about a month ago from drinking beer and being on diet pills for several days and didnt go b4 i fell asleep and the next morning i had to go really bad but it took several trips to the bathroom before i could urinate and it hurt like hell every time!!!! 1st time that has ever happened to me!!!!!

it's happened to me more than once. it goes away. that doesn't make it right,of course... might be kidney stones or something, not qualified to say. (i've had intermittent soreness over a few days after a spike attack like that, but not constant pain... if the latter's the case for you, you really ought to see a doc...)

BUT it's probably a good idea not to overload your bladder before bedtime. Also, it's nice for your bladder if you go to the toilet as soon as you feel you need to - don't hold it in.

Sounds like gall stones. You should go see a doctor right away.

In the meantime, use coffee filters to strain your urine. You'll catch any debris that may be in your urine stream which could be very, very helpful for doctors.

My father had stones a long time ago. I can't recall ever seeing someone in so much pain in my life. It was horrible. Try to imagine passing a rock through your penis hole. Just that thought is very uncomfortable to imagine.

If the stones are large enough, I understand that there are ways to break them up with the use of sound waves and probably even more advanced technology today.

EDITED TO ADD: Oh! I didn't realize that you meant physically "strain" your bladder, like a muscle. Probably not, but you can bruise and otherwise injure it. In the meantime - try my suggestion about straining your urine in case you pass stones or other debris. See a doctor.
