My 12yr old son has found a lump does anyone have any ideas what it could be?!

Question: My son has found a lump the size of a pea just near his nipple, The gp is not open today so we will have to wait till Monday. I was wondering if it could be anything to do with puberty. Has any one heard of this before?

Donna B.... I really don't know if it's realated to puberty. I know we get man breast from puberty, that presist in to adult hood. I have had many tumors of the breast, and many removed. It's really hard to say other wise. There is such a thing as men having cnacerous tumors like women as my grandfather died of it. That's not to scare you , but it's more common then most realize. I don't think its anything you probably have to be worried about, but i would be on the safe side and have it looked at. Cyst are common also. I will keep you and your son in prayer. Get it checked out as I said, we aren't doctors, and i know i wouldn't want to miss lead you. Good Luck!

Probably something and nothing but take him to the GP first thing Monday morning even if only to allay your fears.

It probably is to do with puberty, boys get lumps in the nipple and under their arms - both fairly common. Although this is the most likely diagnosis you must ensure that you go the doctor's on Monday, may be an infected gland and he may need antibiotics. I'm sure all is well, good luck.

Could be just a sebatious cyst..nothing to worry too much about if that's the case..but take himto the doctor just to be sure.

Yes Puberty. I had one under each nipple, though larger than a pea and quite sore, for a couple of years. But why not ring the doctor anyway for confirmation.

Long ago, my sister had a lump in her breast, it was caused by being hit with a baseball a couple of years before.
Just a thought.

I had this also, but, its gone now, so maybe caused by puberty, but take your son to doctors just in case :)

it could be a deep pours spot but I'm sure its nothing to worry about take him to the Docs Monday, best of luck..xx

I would have the lump checked out but it could be a fibroadenoma, or noncancerous tumor. Teenagers are prone to developing harmless lumps, which can be the size of a pea or a marble.

for peace of mind, check it out with a Dr, but It is puberty related, I remember myself and friends at school all had them at around that time, very tender for a few months.

a nodule under the nipple at his age could be harmless.
but to be safe consult a surgeon and get a FNAC exam done.
FNAC involves aspiration of the mass and study of the cells obtained by a pathologist .it is a office procedure.

Hi, it could be waste that has accumulated travelling to the lymphatic gland. As long as your son isnt in pain, then as the others have said, take him to see your local GP.
If however, he is in pain I would advise to contact the NHS. If your in the UK their number is 08454647.
If elsewhere there maybe a special number to dial in your area, you could check this out in your local telephone book.

Hope this helps and that he is ok!

It is most likely a benign cyst , but yes you should seek reassurance from your doctor on Monday .
All sorts of things happen to a guys body in puberty , and it could be due to hormone rush
Good Luck at your GP

It is probably an enflamed gland. Males have mamary glands also.
I would not stress out over it, but if it persists then go get it checked.

I remember having that too on both of my nipples when I was about 13 or 14. It made them very sore and easily irritated but they eventually went away after a few months. Never found out what they were so I assumed it was just part of puberty. I've also heard of other guys getting that so I think it's normal. But just to be on the safe side you could take him out for a checkup.

i had a lump the size of a pea just infront of my ear. It was a swollen seabaceous gland and dissapeared over time....about 2 months iI think. I am sure all will be well.
