Really, just get out there and have some fun. That's what exercise is all about. Go do some hiking or cycling with your friends... you see kids running around all over the place, cycling, running, jumping, climbing... they have no plan, they just know fun, and that's it.

At 5'10 - 180 should be your goal if you are loaded with heavy muscles. Otherwise, keep going. If you exercise enough, your body will go to it's optimum levels, of fat/muscle and of course other things.

Anyway, forget about weight -- throw away the scale. You know if you have more excess fat than you need/want without a scale. Certainly eating better will help bundles. But what you need to focus on is raising your metabolism.

This all depends on how: Hard?; Long?; Often? + Intensity.

An easy example would be running. Stretch. Warm up. Now you start running. Then, for example, when you get going along, decide to run as fast as you can for the next two telephone poles, then go back to your former pace for a bit, once you catch your breath, do it again, as fast as you can. Just a half hour (+ stretching and warmup/cool down) of this sort of exercise is good to get you going -- no need to get out there and run for hours and hours if you don't have the time or will. Soon, your regular pace will be faster and so will your sprints. When you are getting really into shape, you can set up new challenges for yourself, and make it *fun*. Challenging can be fun -- I think it is.

As far as food is concerned, hey, it's no mystery what is healthy and what is not. No need to scratch your head between eating doughnuts or oranges, right? Just use common sense. "Hm... these crackers have 15 ingredients including things I have no idea what they are... And these crackers just say, 'whole wheat flour, rye flour, sesame seeds, sea salt'" Same difference.

Try to stick to real foods, and mostly unprocessed -- simple. No need to make a diet plan, count calories, count protein, etc. Focus on quality food that has nutrition. White flour, white sugar, brown sugar, table salt, preservatives, colours, ...forget that crud. If you eat food with more nutrition, real stuff like fruits and veggies, nuts, beans, legumes, seeds, ...there will be no more empty calories -- no more eating and eating and not feeling full.

2 yrs ago I lost 58 pounds in 6 months, I started going to the gym 6 days a week kept my diet low cal but done alot of cardio either on the bike or treadmill counting my caloric burn
and tring to keep my input and burn as close as possible as far as the calories go,but the key is stay with it don't go a few times do it often as possible.and remember that you will notice the weight leaving from the head down.

I stopped drinking excessive milk (I limit myself to about 8 ounces a day), and noticed change. I also eat french fries and chips rarely. Fresh fruit for breakfast and snacks. Small portions, and NO soda--not even diet. Only water, unsweetened iced tea.

I also enjoy walking--uphill. Walking uphill increases the amount of calories you burn. Most treadmills have an uphill function. When you do lift weights, avoid locking your elbows, and if it hurts, stop doing it.
