I'm not entirely sure. I always ask myself, "If it is a sin, why does masturbating have health benefits? Wouldn't God want me to be healthy?"
I suppose it is a sin if you do it because you saw a naked lady or doing it because of porn or whatever. If you think lustful thoughts while doing it, then it is. But I'm also still not sure.
Just make sure you don't get addicted like many men do. If you can go days or weeks, maybe even months without doing it, that's perfectly fine. The best way to abstain is to keep all sexual thoughts away from you. I do that and NEVER get the urge. But once I see something that gets me going, then it's a different story.

by whose standards? i think it probably depends on the religion, the denomination, and the church that you attend. i think that you need to make that decision for yourself. if you are uncomfortable or feel guilty afterwards, then don't do it. i don't think there's anything wrong with it though.

Of course not. Masturbation is a normal act of release. And guess what, if you don't do it, your body naturally will in your sleep. In some religons it is a "sin" because you are "wasting" your god given gift. In others, they belive that if you masturbate, you are killing your should be son. But think about this: if your dad, had jerked off one less time, then would you be here today? Same goes for allllllll those people who say it's a sin.
It depends on the religion. I believe that somewhere in the Bible (not sure on whether the old or new testament) that it says it is better to hire a prostitute than to waste your seed. But keep in mind the times change.

It all depends on your religion but for Christians it's not a sin and considering it's a healthy, natural and normal thing to do, I find it unlikely that God (in any religion) would give everyone the natural instinct to do this, then call it a sin. It makes no sense. And no the bible doesn't say that it's better to get a prostitue than waist the seed. I don't know where that person got that idea. In fact the bible clearly says that fornication is a sin but doesn't mention masturbation at all. All sins (and more specifically sexual sins) are clearly spelled out in the bible:
Fornication (having sex outside of marriage)
Adultery (cheating on your husband or wife)
Sodomy (performing homosexual acts)
Incest (having sex with a close relative)
Bestiality (having sex with animals)
Those are the only things that are singled out when it comes to sexual sin. Not once is masturbation even discussed in the bible by name or description. Therefore how can it be a sin? Lust is considered sinful in the bible, but the definition of lust varies from individual to individual and from context to context. But masturbation itself is no more a sin than having wet dreams, or getting your period is a sin. It's just natural biological thing that everyone does.

well first ask what sin is. Sin is that which takes you away from the glory of God....so has masturbation ruled your life instead of God....if so then it would be sin. Masturbation was not said to be sin in the bible....the bible talked about the condition of your heart.....if you lust that is sin.....also you need to discover why you masturbate....is it a method of self expression or self abuse because you need to masturbate to not feel sad or whatever.....The Christian view is that your body is a temple to the Holy Spirit so if you are abusing that temple then however you are doing it is a sin.........it's the motives of the heart and how you treat yourself
