the top number, systolic should be for a male 100 plus his age. the bottom number, diastolic, should be around 60-90 or so. it could have something to do with his weight, depends on if he has more fat or muscle.

The normal pressure is 120 over 80.

High blood pressure is defines as a BP greater than 140/90 on three separate visits. I would say that he is at least borderline at this point with the two pressures he has had taken. The top number, the systolic pressure, is the pressure of the blood against the arterial walls during contraction of the ventricles of the heart and the bottom number, the diastolic pressure, is the pressure of the blood against tha arterial walls during relaxation of the heart. High blood pressure can be inherited or can be caused by smoking, stress, obesity, diabetes, plaque in the arteries, as well as problems with the heart itself. He needs to continue to be seen regularly by a doctor, eliminate the risk factors that he can, and may possibly need some antihypertensive medication.

Normal systemtic preasure (the first number) is between 120-145. Diastalic preasure should be between 80-100.

I'm not sure why they said it was still high the second time around unless it just didn't come down far enough from the time between the first test. In otherwords you're blood preasure increases based on physical activity. So say you go to the hospital, sit down and they take your preasure. Its naturally going to be higher than when you're at rest. However there is also a normal range for a decrease in blood preasure. So if they checked it again within 30 minutes and said it was still high its because his preasure didn't go down fast enough.

Men generally have higher blood preasure than women. His size deffinately would indicate higher preasure. Although being that tall and that heavy sounds like he should have a normal BMI (body mass index, it tells people what a normal weight is for their height). But it also matters on how much cholesteral and fat is in his body as well. Some people are also genetic predisposed to have high blood preasure. Stress also increases this.

So what does it mean? - your man has high blood preasure which most doctors would probably agree means that he has a higher risk for heart disease, stroke, heart attack or other cardiovascular condition. If he is over 35 five, double that factor, if he smokes or drinks regularly - some claim the risk factor is even as much as 6 times higher than normal.

120/80 is normal
