Minor throbbing in scrotum. What is causing it?!

Question: I've had a minor throbbing in the left side of my scrotum for the past 30 min. It seems to be increasing in pain. the pain is just above the left testicle. I would give the pain a 4 out 10, 1 being the least painful. Also, sometimes the throbbing will go away for 1-2 min, then come back. The scrotum itself looks completely normal, from what I can tell. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? It's really got me worried.

No I'm not sexually active.

It could be testicular torsion; see http://www.fpnotebook.com/Urology/Testes...
This is where the testicle gets rotated and the cremaster muscle etc pinch the artery feeding the testicle. This can actually cause the testicle to die if untreated.
This is very serious, like go to the emergency room serious. If it is still hurting an hour from now, talk to your doc.

Look at the 'differential diagnosis' section of the webpage for other possibilities.

frustration??

could it be blue balls? are you bringing yourself to almost climax and then stopping? Other than that, I have no idea...

I'd have to say you hung a nut. Stop wanking for an hour or two and it will go away.

Sounds like the dreaded scrotum beetle. They like to make their home in there and when they fart, you feel a throbbing sensation.
The best way to get rid of them is to lay your scrotum on a flat hard surface and give it a good whack with a ten pound sledge hammer. This may cause slight additional pain for a short while, but it does work. Try to avoid striking the penis!!

Get to the ER if it doesn't stop hurting. A friend of mine's son got his testicles twisted together. What a nightmare.
