Is masturbating a sin?!

Question: I mean this is normal, specially in the stage of teenagers, but I'm just curious, is it a sin to masturbate or it has to be in a controlled period? ^_^

Masturbation itself is not a sin. There is nothing in the bible that would indicate masturbation being a sin. So, no - inherently, masturbation is NOT a sin. However...

Viewing porn (lusting after the persons in the image) is a sin because lust is a sin. Even fantasizing about a woman while masturbating (a woman who is not your wife) is a sin. That being said, many men have found they are able to masturbate without relying on lust to bring them pleasure. Masturbation can be enjoyed freely and without guilt if you masturbate without the other things that can bring about sin.

If you can masturbate without porn or lustful thoughts, then great. You've got nothing to worry about. Remember, if you have sinned, you can always go to God and repent of your sins and you WILL be forgiven. His is a forgiving God.

Take care.

no, because the bible has too many holes in it to be real.

at one point the bible says pooping is a sin

does that make sense to you?

no its not a sin

According to bible teachings its a sin, but it's really a self morale thing.

idk but i think it is a sin cause once my friend was gonna confess n she had a slip that had some types of sins and i think i saw that one in there.....pleassuring yourself

other than debat5ing religous apethetics we should focus on the QUESTION, i masturbate and am a 134 yr old male who believes in god and jesus christ, i find it not a sin, its all in youbut its all up to whether you think it is or not, i dont believe it because if god didnt want us to do that then why would he make it feel so good? he gave us some good things in life, use em, masturbation is like safe drugs....

no every one does it

for males-it's a right! really, it's how a male finds out what ways his sexual side reacts. How and what you enjoys. It's your "practice grounds". And once you figure it out-your likes and dis-likes, you can then convey that to your future lovers.

It's a practice you will do ALL your life-single or married, nothing wrong with it at all-Go get it!

Yes.
but it's one of the rules in the Bible that was put there to show us that we are not sinless beings.
you need to masturbate to stay healthy, and 98% of men do it.

Yes it's normal. As to whether it's a sin, it depends on your religion. Lots of religions have prohibitions on sex, but if you think about it, God made us to be sexual creatures and we shouldn't be ashamed of the natural functions of our bodies. But talk to a religious leader or pastor if you need to.

No. It's OK for people to explore their own bodies - as long as it is not in a perverse way.

J

If it is a sin hell will be flooded soon!

It depends on ur religon if ur catholic U cant its a sin (Damnit i cant but do sometimes) and other Christan things it says its a conduct thing idk its be a while since i remebered dis stuff

Not entirely sure. I saw this one site, and it said it wasn't. You have to ask yourself - why would God make us sexual creatures, yet tell us to control it? The big question on my mind is "what is sexual immorality?" I'm not sure about the whole lust thing. I know it's a sin for sure to lust, but they bring up a type of argument about what would separate fantasizing to lusting.Masturbation is a way to control your urges. If you hold it in, you're more than likely to release your urges innappropriately (i.e. touching a girl wrongly or something like that). I'll post a link.

But I just did some more research...and from a Christian point of view (I'm Christian myself), no, it's not. No where in the Bible does it say that it is a sin. For those who bring up an argument that say it is will bring up something like Matthew 5:28. "If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off, for it would be better to lose one part of your body than your whole body in the lake of fire."

This argument isn't reasonable, though (in a sense). I looked through a bunch of sites, and most came up with the same overruling thing...

"Masturbating isn't a sin. It is a sin, however, if you masturbate to lustful thoughts."

Then you'd have to ask, "How is that possible?" Well, personally, I have yet to figure that out myself. The mind is the man's most powerful sex organ, not anything else. Thinking sexual thoughts stimulates the man. Women don't need that to masturbate (which totally sucks for us guys...major disadvantage), while men do. Basically, lusting is thinking of anyone who isn't your spose sexually...I think. I'm pretty sure that's what it is, but be sure to do some research on your own.

And to the dude below me...FYI, Catholic and Christian aren't the same thing. Catholics have a completely different doctrine. And yeah, catholics do believe in Christ, but they don't see him as the saving one. Catholics pray to Mary more than Jesus or God combined. You never see any statues of Jesus built. And when you do, it's him dead on the cross. I got news for ya - he isn't dead! He's alive! But you'd like to keep them there, huh?

And their doctrine goes against God's version completely. They say you can get to heaven by works. Well, I leave you with this verse:

Isaiah 57:12 "I will expose your righteousness and good works, and they will not benefit you." Meaning you can't get to heaven by works...only by faith.

FYI- Catholic, Christian (SAME THING)
People that are christian believe in CHRIST~
Catholics believe in Christ, therefore they are CHRISTIAN

I used this in another question

i am a catholic and the bottom line is that the catholic church, and most churches, believe that masturbation is considered to be "unnatural". (i had to listen to an all day seminar on the theology of the body, so i know their side)..The catholic church is all for promoting sex, but in marriage. The church also promotes the fact sex between a husband a wife should be for plessure and with the option of creating a life.
I know it doesnt sound realistic..believe me it doesnt but the bottom line is that you should only have sex when you want to have child....... lets get real this doesnt happen..
the church considers masturbation wrong because it leaves out the option of procreation.
they also consider birth control wrong and even having a vesectamoy or a women having their tubes tied...because it leaves out the option for procreation. the same goes for homosexuals...the fact that procreation cant take place IS the factor. the church looks at it as unnatural and the parts dont fit, but just because you're gay doesnt mean you're going to burn in hell..like most people make the chuch out to say...
the church is all about doing things with the option of procreation..that is the bottom line.
So in some ways it is looked at as sin..and i also found out that it is also looked at as an addiction and some people just cannot subconsiousley help themselves just like drinking or smoking..
and their thought is that these "addicts" need help.
bottom line is is technically a "sin" but that doesn't mean you'll go to hell...the catholic church teaches that no one actually goes to hell....for example..we don't even believe that Hitler is in hell (this is arguable) becaue he was not a sane person..he was so sick and twisted...but that doesnt mean he is in hell. ( catholics really believe this)

my personal beliefs...masturbation is a normal thing..its a healthy habit..and its a way to obstain from having sex before marriage...it does not hurt anyone, and you are not bothering anyone. although i am catholic i have to say that i can't even follow those stern teachings, i masturbate frequently and i do not think of it as a sin..not at all...
do not think you'll go to hell because you wont.
did you know that 92% of males masturbate?
while 58% of females masturbate...
remember masturbation is apart of exploring your sexuality and growing up

I can only answer this question from a Christian perspective and this is about as neutral as I can get on the issue.

For Catholics: Yes, it's considered a sin.
For Protestants: No, it's not considered a sin (unless lust is involved).

Catholocism is Christianity but there is a difference between Catholics and Protestants in how they intepret the bible.

The Catholic church says that masturbation is a sin because any type of sexual activity where procreation is not a possibility is unnatural. God meant sex to be between a man and his wife and the only purpose of sex is to create life. Anything else outside of that is perversion. They also feel that masturbation induces lustful thoughts which the bible clearly says are sinful in nature.

Protestants usually don't consider masturbation a sin because the bible never actually mentions it and all of the other sexual sins are clearly spelled out (fornication, adultery, homosexuality, etc). Basically, if masturbation was a sin, the bible would say "thou shall not masturbate or sexually stimulate yourself" or words to that effect. And since masturbation doesn't break any of these other rules and since it is our natural biological instinct and considered a healthy thing to do medically, God wouldn't make that a sin.

Therefore, it really depends on your religion, your denomination, your church and your own personl views to determine whether or not its a sin. I personally don't think it is, but then again I'm not Catholic. Regardless of whether it is or not, all humans are sinners because we have inherited original sin from Adam and Eve. However, we can all be forgiven our sins since Jesus (our savior) died for us. All it takes is repentance and faith in him.

BTW, 98% of all males masturbate. The other 2% are lying! The bottom line is, you WILL masturbate as some point or another. The only question is will you feel guilty about it or not.

If you believe that masturbation is a sin, then what you need to do is pray for forgiveness and strength to control your lustful thoughts. Recognize that as a man you will be weak at times and that Jesus as your savior means that you will be forgiven.

If you don't believe it's a sin, then you should thank the Lord that he has given us this wonderful gift that allows us to satisfy our sexual tension in a safe way and without resorting to fornication. Either way, you should sleep like a baby after you masturbate!
