I get light headed when ever I get tired in a basketball game?!

Question: When ever I am tired, especially at the end of the games, I get light headed. And I am one of those players who has to play nearly the whole game. I am not in great shape right now. But like I said, I get light headed when ever I get tired and I cant focus on my shots and I miss. What can I do? Yeah yeah get in better shape is what people will say. I know, but I need a short term solution.

Also, when ever we get a period break, I am afraid to drink a lot of water/gatorade because I'm afraid I will get soar throat. Is it okay to drink a lot of water/gatorade when I'm sweating on a period break? Or is that bad? Maybe thats why I get light headed, I am dehydrated?

Yes it's dehydration, Drink water, and Gatorade.
Water and Gatorade are made for them types of
sports, I am in basketball [pointgaurd] and they have
me playing the whole game unless i get tired, but then
again I'm in shape, don't worry though, it's not all because
of you not being in shape believe me, but you really
should start running more, but a short term solution, to me
would be to drink more water when you take period breaks.
and during subs. so just do that, and work from there.

Also, when you sit do subs. and breaks. take your hands
and put them at the top of your head, it opens the airway
to your lungs, and can help the dizzyness go away, and also
you can need to have potassium, because it's what makes
your heart beat fuction correctly and in the right pattern, so
just do what you do, and see what happens.

Goodluck. =]

You need to eat a good carbohydrate snack along with a protein snack. Your blood sugar is getting too low to allow your body to function. Drink the gatorade at breaks so you can get an ongoing supply of sugar. The water will keep you hydrated.

You are definitely getting dehydrated. You need to drink lots during a game when you are sweating. You need to continuously drink, but not in gulps, in small sips. If you are getting light headed and can't focus, then you are definitly getting way too dehydrated.

If you get lightheaded you should see your doctor and get an EKG done.
Drinking Gatorade may help as it has potassium in it, which causes your heart to beat properly.

I think you need to talk to your doctor about this. As I read this I immediately thought of all those kids I hear that just drop dead while playing some sport. All along they didn't know it, but they had some congenital heart defect that caused some arrythmia while playing sports. Seriously...it's unusual that this should be happening to you. I had a friend who had this happen in high school. He was very lucky. Nothing happened while in high school, but it gradually got worse and they did find a heart defect. Thankfully he's gotten a heart transplant and is doing well now. Seriously, talk to your doctor.

same here i get light headed
