Changing weights?!

Question: Im 16 and the only weight training I do is barbell weights. I do 20 reps of 10k/kg 2 times a day, when I look on the internet and speak to friends they say to double the weight and try to do half the reps, but my father says stick to the lower weight and do more reps. Anyone got any idea which is best for getting stronger.?

Light weight and a high number or reps works on definition, providing you have muscle and it's not surrounded by fat. Heavy weight and low reps build strength and size. I would suggest you work out every other day with heavy weights and lower reps, and on the 4th exercising day of working out (which is really the 8th day since you're working every other day) work with light weight and high reps.

The key on the 3 days you work out with heavy weights and low reps is to gradually increase your reps. Once you find yourself able to do approximately 5 more reps of the same heavy weight for several sets, it's time to increase the weight (maybe by 5lbs on each end).

At your age, if you're not already, you will soon have a HUGE appetite due to puberty (etc.). Try to fill that appetite with as much protein as possible, and you'll see results quick.

If you can, measure your size right now, and then measure it in 2 months. You'll see gains.

GOOD LUCK!

keep with the lower weights but do more of them as u get better at doing then and use themin diffent ways like holding them out infront of u that is a challenge.
