The adam's apple is actually the voice box (larynx). So called because of the story about Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, the larynx, which grows at puberty for both boys and girls but is more noticable in boys, looks like a piece of fruit stuck in the throat. If you believe in the Adam and Eve stuff, you might well wonder what women got as a result of their defiance to God's word... well, it was to suffer during child birth.....but that's another story.
