Could be an indicator of low sperm count caused perhaps by a poor diet primarly from high fat, high sodium foods which equals low circulation and low testosterone which leads to low sperm count. A healthy sperm count would equal a thick white ejaculate that is not watery. Or he simply masterbated that morning perhaps. Try to pay attention to his diet, excercise routine, etc... though to make sure he is healthy.
If it tastes rancid/horrible that is nature's way of warning you that something is wrong with his health possibly even cancer or disease and hence the poor health of his seed and not to have children from him. (just so ya know).

I'm not a medical expert, but i believe that semen can be different colors/textures etc at different times. I actually think that the sperm combines during arousal with another fluid and that is what semen really is. So if you haven't let loose in awhile, it will be thicker because you have more of that fluid built up. And if you've expelled some recently, there will be less of it and the semen will be runny and clear like you describe.

Semen can take on many different appearances depending on what it's composed of. Pre-emission is normally very clear and thin, this is a lubrication produced by the prostate gland. Depending on the amount of this component in semen it may be more or less thin. Semen can also be much thicker and whiter or even thick with a yellowish tinge. Many components change all this and can include, nutrition, exercise, and frequency of ejaculation. What you are describing is perfectly normal!
